Merry Christmas!

I hope you've been enjoying this month's pictures of nativity scenes. I've enjoyed sharing them with you.

I saved this for last for two reasons. First of all, it's the largest. Joseph is three feet tall. Most of the nativity scenes I've seen are much smaller than that. Secondly, although most of us display our nativity scenes for only a short time each year, Sheri keeps this one on display next to a second floor window in her house all year round, reminding her and visitors that we should keep the joy of Christmas in our hearts all year long.

I wish you the most joyous of Christmases as we celebrate the true reason for the season.

Isn't this lantern nativity scene beautiful? I like the unusual container and, of course, the fact that it's lighted, reminding us of the Light of the world. 

If you were wondering, this belongs to my youngest sister.

This week's nativity scene, which belongs to one of my sisters, is a music box that plays "Silent Night." Even if it didn't have music, I think it would still be a beautiful decoration for this Advent season.

This month rather than feature scenes from Wyoming, I asked friends and family to share their favorite nativity scenes with me.

This one comes from Bonnie in Texas. As she pointed out when she sent me the picture, the flickering of the tealight reminds her of the Light of the world. What a beautiful way to celebrate Advent.

One December quite a few years ago my husband and I toured the current governor's mansion to see the then First Lady of Wyoming's Christmas decorations. Several long tables and the grand piano were covered with winter-themed porcelain ornaments, but my favorite was this nativity scene set by itself on a small table.

Where do you find houses like this in Cheyenne? One way is to take one of the Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley's holiday lights tours. 

I was attracted by the simple white lights outlining the figures in the nativity scene. Beautiful!

Snowflakes are beautiful; Santas are cute; but they're not the reason we celebrate Christmas. That's why this month's posts will feature the true reason for the season.

I found this nativity scene in the basement of the Historic Governors' Mansion here in Cheyenne. The building and trees aren't ones you'd find in Bethlehem, but maybe that's the reason the artist crafted this -- to remind us that people all around the world celebrate Jesus's birth.

This is one house I drive by every year, simply because I love the fact that their decorations are a nativity scene, complete with Wise Men as well as shepherds, rather than Santas and snowmen.

Clearly, they understand the reason we celebrate Christmas.

Although there are many symbols of the Christmas season, none captures the true reason for the season better than the nativity scene. I saw this one in the current governors' mansion in Cheyenne soon after we moved to Wyoming and thought it was particularly beautiful.

Merry Christmas!  Though beautifully decorated trees, Santas and reindeer seem to be everywhere, today is the day to remember the true reason we're celebrating -- the birth of a Child in a humble manger more than two thousand years ago.
