Wednesday Near Wyoming -- November 26, 2025

moose in Rocky Mountain National Park
This moose was trying to hide but didn't succeed.

As you probably guessed from the previous Wednesday NEAR Wyoming posts this month, this photo was taken in Rocky Mountain National Park.

If you look closely, you'll see that the fur on the moose's back is almost white. That's because he's in the midst of molting, shedding his winter guard hairs for shorter summer ones.

Did you enjoy seeing the wildlife in RMNP? I hope so. Next month's Wednesday in Wyoming posts will have a very different theme, so please come back to see them.

Wednesday Near Wyoming - November 19, 2025

magpie in Rocky Mountain National Park
The snow may be dirty, but that didn't stop this magpie from sitting on it, hoping for a handout from the picnic my husband and I were having in the car.

We found this magpie in Moraine Park, one of our favorite spots for a picnic in Rocky Mountain National Park regardless of the season.

Wednesday Near Wyoming - November 12, 2025

big horn sheep in Rocky Mountain National Park
Many years ago, well before my husband and I moved to Cheyenne, a coworker described Rocky Mountain National Park as the "crown jewel of the National Park system." I tend to agree with her, because Rocky, as the locals call it, has so much to offer visitors.

In addition to spectacular scenery, there's the wildlife. Doesn't this bighorn sheep look as if it's saying "I'm king of the road"?

Wednesday Near Wyoming - October 3, 2018

Last spring's Wednesday Near Wyoming posts were so popular that I decided to give you an encore this month.

Can you guess where this was taken? If you said, "Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park," you were right. The park, which I've heard described as the "crown jewel of the national park system," is only a couple hours from Cheyenne -- the perfect distance for a day trip.

This is one of my favorite spots in Rocky, as the locals refer to it, just past the summit of Trail Ridge Road on the western side of the park. We're above the tree line here, and on this particular day, the tundra was turning its fall colors. Simply beautiful!
