I'm ending the month with what I call the Mystery Bird. It appeared in the yard in mid-December and stayed long enough for a photo shoot, but -- despite hours spent with my Audubon Field Guide -- I could not identify it. Neither could my neighbor, who's an avid birder.
Do you know who the mysterious visitor was?
My son thought it might be a dickcissel.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeanette. I hadn't heard of dickcissels, but they look a lot like this one.
DeleteIt appears that the mystery bird is a horned lark. I'd never noticed the yellow on the larks here, and my Audubon guide didn't show it, but other pictures online were almost identical to this bird. So ... the mystery is solved. It's a horned lark.
