Wednesday in Wyoming -- April 6, 2016

This may look like an ordinary white crocus to you, but in my yard it's an almost-endangered species.  For some reason, cottontail rabbits (at least the ones who live here) have a strong preference for snacking on white crocuses.  They won't touch the yellow or purple ones, but the white ones disappear almost as soon as they open.

Anyone know why?  Do you think it's the color that attracts them, or is it possible that they smell and/or taste different?

Our final quote for the month comes from beloved author Dr. Seuss who says,  "The more that you read, the more things you will know.  The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."  Do you agree with him?

I hope library patrons stop to read this as they climb the steps to the main entrance, because Charles Eliot's description of books is so valid.

Do you consider books your friends?  I do.  And I agree with Eliot that they're both counselors and teachers.

Who can live without books?  Who would want to?  Not I.

Wednesday in Wyoming -- March 2, 2016

Thomas Jefferson said, "I cannot live without books." I agree with him, but I'd add "or libraries" to his statement.  That's one of the reasons I investigated the Laramie County Library before moving to Cheyenne.  It was in an older, much smaller building then but had everything I needed at the time.  Now it's housed in a beautiful new environmentally-sound building with facilities only dreamt about a dozen years ago.

As you can see, the theme of reading is highlighted in the statue shown above. But what are those lighter colored blocks on the wall next to the main entrance?  They're reading-related quotations from famous people.

I'm going to highlight some of my favorites this month, so be sure to check back each week to see who said what.

Wednesday in Wyoming -- February 24, 2016

The capitol building was constructed even before Wyoming became a state, which means that the center part (the first to be built) is over 125 years old.  It's now time for some "clean-up and fix-up" work.  As a result, the capitol will be closed until 2018.
