This is one of my favorite pieces from this year's Glass Art show at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. There's no question why the artist entitled it "Umbrella Lady." My only question is when Cheyenne will get some much-needed rain.

As is always the case, this year's Glass art show at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens featured a number of intriguing pieces. I thought the octopus was whimsical, but what I found even more interesting was the title of the other piece.
Why do you think the artist called it "Wyoming Weather"?

February is the month of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens' annual Glass Art Show, something I look forward to every year. Most years, I simply admire the pieces, but one year -- 2009 to be specific -- I found inspiration in one of them.
I was writing the Texas Dreams series when my editor told me that the title I'd chosen for the third book, Winter Garden, wouldn't work for them. It seems that readers choose books with "winter" in their titles only during that season.
I mulled over ideas for a different title, but nothing felt right until I saw this piece of glass art. I was intrigued by the couple looking into the distance, perhaps dreaming about their future, and when I saw that the name of the piece was "Tomorrow," I knew I'd found the missing piece for my title. It became Tomorrow's Garden.
How's that for serendipity?

A wise old owl and a western landscape. As you can see, there's a wide variety of art on display at this year's Glass Art Celebration.

Since elephants are one of my favorite animals, I was delighted to see this piece at the Botanic Gardens' Glass Art Celebration.

When I saw this at this year's Glass Art Celebration, my first thought was that the name of the piece would be "Home on the Range." I was right.

The annual glass art show at the Grand Conservatory of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is one of my favorite events of the year.
When I saw this piece of art in January of 2020, it caught my eye because it reminded me of the thousands of miles my husband and I logged on our bikes.

Although the art I've featured in previous posts this month has been two-dimensional, the annual Glass Art Show at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens also has three-dimensional pieces, including this one from the 2020 show.
I would never have thought to combine candy dishes like this. Would you?

The opening of the Shane Smith Grand Conservatory gave the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens a new way to display art from its annual Glass Art Show, with pieces hanging in front of the second story windows overlooking the conservatory.
This piece was part of the 2019 show.

In honor of the annual Glass Art Show at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, which continues through this month, I'm going to feature some of my favorite pictures from previous years' shows.
Prior to the construction of the Shane Smith Grand Conservatory, the show was held in the much smaller conservatory of the original building where art and plants were in close proximity.
In case you're curious, this picture was taken at the 2009 show.

Here's a closeup to show you the number of pieces and different sizes of glass that are used to create this piece.
I wish I could create pieces like this, but since I can't, I'm grateful that the Botanic Gardens hosts the show so that I can enjoy seeing them.

What also appealed to me was that it was hung in an outside window at the Grand Conservatory, making its background part of the gardens themselves.
I can picture columbines blooming there next summer. Can't you?

This piece caught my eye for several reasons. First of all, there's the beauty of the cherry blossoms. But I also liked the way the leaves of the huge banana palm highlighted it.
As you can see, the Shane Smith Grand Conservatory is the perfect place to display art.

In addition to the very red red fox, I liked the way the vertical lines of the frame were echoed by the flagpole.
My Wednesday in Wyoming posts will have a different theme next month, but there were so many beautiful pieces of glass art that I intend to devote another month to them later this year. I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I have.

These pieces, which are hanging in the second floor classroom, have a less-than-spectacular but highly necessary background: the maintenance part of the gardens.

I particularly liked this portrait of a hummingbird. Not only did it remind me of the hummers that frequent my backyard every summer, but the sparkling mosaic-style background caught my eye.
