glass art, cheyenne botanic gardens
This is one of my favorite pieces from this year's Glass Art show at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. There's no question why the artist entitled it "Umbrella Lady." My only question is when Cheyenne will get some much-needed rain.

walkway, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
Glass art isn't the only thing to enjoy at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. The walkway between the grand conservatory and the original building is brightened by flowering plants and the statue of a cat that seems to be staking its claim to the building.

No matter what the weather is like outside, the inside of the conservatory is always warm and welcoming. If you're in the Cheyenne area, I highly recommend visiting it.

Glass Art - Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
As is always the case, this year's Glass art show at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens featured a number of intriguing pieces. I thought the octopus was whimsical, but what I found even more interesting was the title of the other piece.

Why do you think the artist called it "Wyoming Weather"?

glass art celebration, cheyenne botanic gardens
A wise old owl and a western landscape. As you can see, there's a wide variety of art on display at this year's Glass Art Celebration.

Since elephants are one of my favorite animals, I was delighted to see this piece at the Botanic Gardens' Glass Art Celebration.

Glass Art Celebration, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
When I saw this at this year's Glass Art Celebration, my first thought was that the name of the piece would be "Home on the Range." I was right.

Cheyenne Botanic Gardens Glass Art Show
The annual glass art show at the Grand Conservatory of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is one of my favorite events of the year.

When I saw this piece of art in January of 2020, it caught my eye because it reminded me of the thousands of miles my husband and I logged on our bikes.

scarecrows, Children's Village
If you have vegetables, you need scarecrows, especially at this time of the year, and so the Children's Village at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens has its share of scarecrows.

I don't know whether they kept the crows away, but both children and adults came to admire them.

birdbath, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
Who would have thought that flower petals falling into a birdbath would create such beauty?

As you may have guessed, this picture was taken at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens.

Children's Village dome, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
The dome at the Children's Village (part of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens) is beautiful at any time, but a bright blue sky and vibrantly colored flowers add to its appeal and make it a must-see.

Cheyenne Botanic Gardens

If you're looking for beautiful autumnal foliage and flowers in southeastern Wyoming, there's no better place than the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. This is one of my favorite places in the city and one of the reasons my husband and I chose to move to this part of Wyoming.

Glass Art Show, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
Although the art I've featured in previous posts this month has been two-dimensional, the annual Glass Art Show at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens also has three-dimensional pieces, including this one from the 2020 show.

I would never have thought to combine candy dishes like this. Would you?

Glass Art show, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
The opening of the Shane Smith Grand Conservatory gave the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens a new way to display art from its annual Glass Art Show, with pieces hanging in front of the second story windows overlooking the conservatory.

This piece was part of the 2019 show.

Glass Art Show, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens

Since space was limited prior to the construction of the Grand Conservatory at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, glass art was displayed in the growing area next to the original conservatory. I found the juxtaposition of natural and manmade beauty intriguing in this picture from the 2012 Glass Art Show.

Cheyenne Botanic Gardens labyrinth
One of the many attractions at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is the labyrinth, a place for quiet contemplation. And, for those who are prefer to sit rather than walk, several benches provide a tactile labyrinth, allowing visitors to trace the paths with their fingers.

Bear sculpture, Cheyenne Botanic Gardens
How often do you find a bear welcoming you to a botanic garden?

Ursus, who was first on display as part of the "Gardens Gone Wild" exhibit a few years ago, may not  be an official greeter, but he's what you see as you approach the Shane Smith Grand Conservatory - another reason to visit one of Cheyenne's most beautiful locations.

Cheyenne Botanic Gardens art display
As if beautiful plants, flowers, and the occasional turtle or fish weren't enough, the Grand Conservatory of the Botanic Gardens also features local artists' work.

These whimsical pieces were created by Tara Pappas and made at least one visitor - namely me - smile.

The art displays, which include an annual Glass Art Show, are showcased on the second floor of the conservatory against the backdrop of the main conservatory, and many of the pieces are available for purchase. In addition to original art, prints are sometimes available in the gift shop, the Tilted Tulip.

I hope this month's posts have shown you that the appeal of Cheyenne Botanic Gardens is multi-faceted, making it a place to visit throughout the year.

Cheyenne Botanic Gardens - turtle and fish
Plants and flowers may be the primary attraction of the Botanic Gardens' Grand Conservatory, but there are other things to catch a visitor's eye.

The staff have named the turtles, so if you visit, be sure to ask someone to help you identify them.

Cheyenne Botanic Gardens - interior of conservatory
Even when the wind is blowing, snow is falling, and temperatures are below zero, the interior of the Grand Conservatory at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens provides a warm and beautiful place to spend a few minutes ... or hours.

If you look closely, you'll see tables and chairs on the second floor, encouraging visitors to linger and enjoy the tropical atmosphere.
