For my final "winter in Wyoming" post, I've stayed close to home. I smiled when I saw that this obviously hungry cottontail had dug through fairly deep snow in my backyard to find a bit of grass. So cute!

There's more to this picture than the snow-covered trees, even though those are beautiful enough to warrant a second look. The reason people are standing next to the fence is that a geyser is about to erupt. Yes, this picture was taken in Yellowstone.

Hot springs are particularly photogenic in the winter, aren't they? You might think this was taken at Yellowstone, but it's actually from Thermopolis.

Although my East Coast friends believe Wyoming is covered with many feet of snow all winter, that's not always the case, especially in the eastern part of the state. As you can see, there are only a few inches on the road here ... not enough for a plow. Instead, we rely on solar road clearing.
This photo was taken on a road heading toward Lander and the famous Lander Lil, Wyoming's answer to Punxsutawney Phil.

Happy New Year! I hope 2024 is a wonderful year for you.
It's definitely winter in Wyoming, and so this month I'm going to feature some wintery scenes. This one is of the Laramie River at Fort Laramie, one of my favorite places in the state.

Even though it's two days since Christmas Day, there's still reason to celebrate the Christ Child's birth and the joy He brought to the world.
I hope your Christmas was a happy one and that the new year brings you health, happiness, and time with those you love.

Wednesday in Wyoming - December 20, 2023
One December quite a few years ago my husband and I toured the current governor's mansion to see the then First Lady of Wyoming's Christmas decorations. Several long tables and the grand piano were covered with winter-themed porcelain ornaments, but my favorite was this nativity scene set by itself on a small table.
